It’s hard to believe that October is almost here! Your students are adjusting well to First Grade and are working very hard. They all survived Iowa Tests last week and we are all happy that testing is over and to get back to our regular daily routine. This week we begin to have spelling words. Spelling Tests will be every Friday. On Monday, your child will have a spelling word list inside their homework folder. Every Monday, homework will be to write the spelling words 3 times each. Please keep the list at home and help your child get ready for their spelling tests. I now have a “blog” and I will also post the Spelling words weekly on the blog. You can check the blog at:
www.kandlsclass.blogspot.com
I will try to use the blog to let you know about field trips, book orders, and anything pertinent to the First Grade class.

First Grade is trying to plan a few field trips. I’m hoping one may be to the Caw Caw Interpretative Center. They have an excellent program teaching about the plant life cycle using the pumpkin. The students will also decorate a pumpkin to take home. The program director will be calling me this week with dates and cost. I will contact you and send Field Trip Permission forms as soon as I have information. Please also check the blog. I will need drivers. PLEASE REMEMBER YOU MUST HAVE VIRTUS TRAINING, AND HAVE ALL FORMS NECESSARY FOR DRIVERS FILLED OUT IN THE OFFICE THE WEEK BEFORE THE FIELD TRIP. Thanks for always being willing to help out with our class.

The first grade homeroom moms are Robin Richter and Jeannie Fanjoy. I know that all of you will be helping out but Robin and Jeannie will be the contact people for first grade, and will help organize and coordinate the First Grade happenings. The parties that we have as a class are very simple. They will be held on Halloween, Christmas, Valentines and possibly something at the end of the year. I ask the homeroom moms (Robin and Jeannie) to call or send a letter asking for paper products and then a few snacks like, drinks, cheese, fruit, cupcakes or cookies and possibly some pretzels or chips. I would like you to send the items to school either the day before or the morning of the party. The lower school uses the last period of the day for our little parties and they are “student only” gatherings. I find it works out better if I keep everything simple and under control. Kristin and I will set up during the children’s special area classes so we are ready to go when they come back to the classroom.

Next week, October 6th - October 10th is Multi-Cultural Week. First Grade will be studying Ireland. If you have Irish pictures or things you want to share with the class, please feel free to send them in next week. I will make sure to send them back at the end of the week.

I need you to be thinking of something we can do for the class auction project. I know the auction is not until April, but time will fly and it would be nice not to be stressed when it’s upon us. I’m hoping not to wait till January or February to get started on this. It would be great to get the ball rolling. I know that there has to be some “parent talent” out there!!! I’m so willing to help; I just don’t have the talent to do it myself!!!!

Thanks for all of your help! This is a great class, First Grade Rocks!!!!
